Current Research
2018-2019
Objective

To investigate visual analysis, mental capacity, visualization, speed, and cognitive flexibility used by children during various tasks.  We are particularly interested in developing a new test to measure these focus areas. The data can then be used to better test children's visual perceptual skills and be integrated into pediatric interventions.

Findings can help occupational therapists to better understand children who have difficulty with visual perception tasks.

2018-2019 Research Project

We are currently looking for participants for our 2018-2019 research study. We are looking for children between the ages of 7 and 10 to participate in a study on visual perception development.  It is not necessary for the child to excel in the various types of tasks; all children are welcome. The goal of our work is to further our understanding of the development of visual perception in children.

In this study, children will be asked to take a new test that includes finding matches, copying through drawing tasks, and general puzzle type games. The activity should take about 30-45 minutes to complete. Children who wish to participate will be seen individually by Dr. Coté and some graduate students. The study will take place in the University of Scranton's Occupational Therapy Department, located in Edward Leahy Jr. Hall (room 307).

As compensation for your child's participation in this study, the parent or guardian bringing the child in will receive $20, and the participating child will receive $10.
