What Do We Do?

We are occupational therapists
Occupational therapists work in many areas of health care.  In this lab we are specifically focused on children who have difficulty with visual perception and the visual-motor skills they need to be successful in school.  We believe that skill develops through activities that are motivating, meaningful and multi-sensory.  Touch and movement, together with vision, being particularly important to skill development in this area.
We are researchers
Research in this lab investigates the connection between vision and touch and how this develops during early childhood in order to better understand children who have difficulties with perceptual motor skills.  This insight can inform and support the best practice in therapy.  Findings from our research projects are shared with other professionals through journal articles and conference presentations.
We are educators
Graduate students in the Occupational Therapy Program are involved in all aspects of research conducted in this lab.  We aim to educate new professionals who have the knowledge and the commitment to advance the profession's knowledge base through research and evidence-based practice.
