Tobii Eye-Tracker

In our lab we study visual perception skills using powerful eye-tracking technology.  The Tobii X-120 eye-tracker consists of 2 infrared cameras that monitor and record a participant's eye movements during a visual activity when eyes are directed toward the computer screen. Children who participate in the study engage in a fun computer activity without realizing their eye movements are being recorded.

The information recorded includes the exact location of where the person looked, how long they fixated gaze on any particular area, and the sequence of their fixations.  Then we can analyze the strategies used for making a choice. See video at the right for an example.

In our current studies we are investigating efficiency and accuracy of children's visual processing.  This is done by having the children discriminate increasingly complex figures.  The pattern of eye fixations can then be observed and recorded.  These are recordings of a child and an adult looking at the same task.  The adult's pattern was more efficent.
